Users on social media recently called out President Joe Biden after he snapped at a reporter who asked him a question about his administration’s response to Hurricane Helene’s devastation. The natural disaster decimated a substantial portion of the East Coast, and as the carnage unfolded, some raised questions as to why President Biden and Vice President Harris were absent from the White House.

During a recent press event, the reporter asked the president, “On the hurricane, Mr. President, why weren’t you and Vice President Harris here in Washington commanding this this weekend?” Biden was asked. Some conservatives have raised speculation that the Biden-Harris administration isn’t concerned about the disaster as the impacted areas are primarily Republican.
Biden fired back at the reporter’s question, “I was commanding, I was on the phone for at least two hours yesterday and the day before as well. I command. It’s called a telephone.” However, after taking another vacation in his beach home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Biden had just returned to the White House. Furthermore, Vice President Harris was on the West Coast, hosting fundraisers on the West Coast in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Conservative commentator Kevin Dalton shared the clip, writing, ‘An indignant Biden snaps back at reporters that dare ask why he wasn’t in the White House instead of on a Delaware beach as Americans were being wiped out by Hurricane Helene.” Another person posted in the comments section, “How dare they ask a real question!”
Another person called out Biden for his continual beach vacations after dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. “Let’s not forget he just spent 2 weeks on vacation at the beach a week ago. He didn’t have enough people around him to tell him sitting on the beach during the storm was a bad idea? For the absolute love, what is going on? Can’t make this stuff up,” one person wrote.
Another person criticized the lack of communication from the Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden.
“They go to great lengths to avoid talking to the american people. It will get much worse if KH gets elected. We will be forced to accept the occasional breadcrumbs of info they throw,” they wrote in the comments section.
President Biden released a statement on Hurricane Helene, which read, “Even before Hurricane Helene hit, I directed my team to do everything possible to prepare to support communities in the storm’s path. I mobilized the entire Federal government to bring every possible resource to the fight to save lives and help those in urgent need. At my direction, the Secretary of Defense has just approved the deployment of up to one thousand active-duty soldiers to reinforce the North Carolina National Guard.”
The statement added, “These soldiers will speed up the delivery of life saving supplies of food, water, and medicine to isolated communities in North Carolina – they have the manpower and logistical capabilities to get this vital job done, and fast. They will join hundreds of North Carolina National Guard members deployed under State authorities in support of the response. Hurricane Helene has been a storm of historic proportion.
My heart goes out to everyone who has experienced unthinkable loss. We are here for you – and we will stay here for as long as it takes.”
