GOP-Led House Votes To Ban Housing Migrants On Public Lands

The Republican-controlled House conducted a vote regarding a significant matter concerning migrants who are presently residing in the United States unlawfully.

This surge in numbers results from President Joe Biden’s immediate reversal of former President Donald Trump’s highly effective immigration and border enforcement policies.

Legislators enacted a provision that prohibits using public land to accommodate undocumented migrants temporarily during their asylum application process.

“The bill, H.R. 5283, passed with a majority of Republicans in support, 224–203,” the outlet reported, adding that the bill’s fate in the upper chamber is also certain, but not in a positive way for the GOP.

“It’s dead on arrival in the U.S. Senate, where Democrats hold a slim majority, and many Democrats criticized the bill as a messaging tactic for the 2024 elections, where hard-line immigration policies are the cornerstone of the GOP platform,” the outlet reported.

House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) declared: “The mission of the National Park Service is to conserve the natural and cultural resources for the enjoyment of future generations, not bail out the failed border policies of the Biden administration.”

The outlet noted further:

The push for the bill comes after the Biden administration granted New York City officials’ request to build temporary housing and facilities for migrant families at Floyd Bennett Field in southeastern Brooklyn.

The bill prohibits this type of action on land under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, or the Forest Service.

It also revokes a 2023 lease between the National Park Service and New York City to use portions of the Gateway National Recreation Area to provide housing for migrants.

This comes as the GOP-led House voted on Wednesday to formally authorize its investigation into President Joe Biden’s potential impeachment.

By a party-line vote of 221-212, the Republican-controlled chamber approved the investigation, looking into whether Biden improperly benefited from his 53-year-old son Hunter Biden’s international business dealings. Hunter Biden had earlier declined an invitation to testify behind closed doors.

Claiming that it is politically motivated and lacking in evidence, the White House has rejected the investigation. Biden is gearing up for battle in anticipation of a potential rematch with Trump in the 2024 election.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized Johnson and House Republicans for the move.

During an interview on MSNBC with host Alex Wagner, the California Democrat claimed Johnson is trying to supply Republican legislators with “a red meat political stunt to distract constituents from their historically unproductive year” by pushing a “baseless impeachment of President Joe Biden.”

“Well, thank you. It is nice to be with you, Alex, especially at this difficult time for our country when we have so many needs that we have to meet so many challenges to democracy in Ukraine and in our own country and that the speaker is going down this path,” Pelosi began.

She added: “He says he has no choice the fact is, he has no respect for the Constitution of the
United States, no respect for his members, whom he’s asking to vote for an impeachment with no basis.”

After his trip to the border on Thursday, former President Donald Trump spoke to Fox News host Sean Hannity, where he declared the state of Texas to be a “war zone.”

“Thousands coming from Afghanistan. Now al Qaeda has training camps up again,” the host said.

“Then, you know, over 10,000, 12,000, 14,000 from Russia, and I read recently over 37,000 from China. Now, why would they make that long journey to our southern border? And my fear is that we are — we have in this country, because these illegals are not vetted, I fear that terror cells have set up in this country that will plot, plan, scheme the next 9/11 or worse,” Hannity continued.

“I pray to God, as I said, I’m wrong. I don’t think I’m wrong, Mr. President,” he said.

“Well, China, as of today, 29,000 young men, for the most part, in our country for the last three or four months. And there’s something going on. Look, there’s something going on,” Trump began.

“Now hopefully we don’t have that problem with China. I always had a good relationship with China until the COVID came in. That was a step too far. We took in hundreds of billions of dollars from China. No president took in $0.10, not $0.10. And we — you know, we still got along with them,” he said.

“But when you look at this, and when you look at other countries, we have a lot coming in from Iran, we have a lot coming in from, you know, places that we are fighting right now. You know, here go the bombs, you don’t have to have bombs. We had no war, I was the first one, 78 years, we had no war, other than I defeated ISIS. We knocked out ISIS. We took out the leading terrorists in the world, both of them. Took them out, gone. And now…,” Trump added.
