Chiefs Fans Tackle Suspected Shooter At Super Bowl Parade [VIDEO]

As can be seen in the video, as the suspect attempted to run away, one fan leaped onto the suspected shooter and dragged him to the ground. Though the shooter wriggled away from that individual, others soon arrived and kept him down, and the police swarmed the scene just moments afterward. Three people were detained, Kansas City police said.

This article originally stated that “ten to fifteen” people had been wounded by the shooter. While correct at the time, that estimate has since been updated to 22 individuals wounded. This article has been edited to reflect the new estimate.

Horrible tragedy struck Kansas City on Wednesday, February 14, when a shooter opened fire on the crowd at the Super Bowl Victory Rally, killing one. The incident occurred near the city’s Union Station, and in addition to the one individual killed, Kansas City Police said that between ten and fifteen people were injured by the shooter. Later estimates provided that 21 individuals had been wounded, in addition to the one killed. Fortunately, however, the shooter was tackled and detained by a crowd of locals.

Speaking to Fox 4 Kansas City about the shooting, one parade attendee said, “We heard 10-12 gunshots, but we thought they were fireworks, so we didn’t really panic at first or get too worked up. But then everyone started screaming and took off running.”

Continuing, that attendee went on to add that the mass casualties could be seen as the crowd fled, saying, “Once the crowd moved out of the way, I could see three people with gunshot wounds on the ground. I saw one girl with a gunshot wound to her leg. A second woman was also shot and had something tied around her leg to make a tourniquet and her leg was covered in blood.”

Continuing, that attendee went on to add that the victims she saw appeared to be young people, saying, “There was a guy right by her, and he was in a lot worse shape – he was lying flat on his back. There were multiple people around him helping him. All three of these people seemed pretty young. In their 20s to 30s. We were trying to get out of there as fast as we could.”

Then she added that she saw a suspect get tackled, telling Fox 4 KC, “My dad saw the police tackle a suspect. When we were walking out, there was someone pointing and saying ‘he’s right there, he’s right there.’ and police ran to the guy the crowd was pointing at and tackled him and put him in handcuffs. Everyone took off running and screaming.”

A video of the incident that emerged appears to show that it was not the police, but a crowd of locals, who tackled and detained the suspect. Conservative X personality Collin Rugg, posting about the video and what it shows, said, “JUST IN: The moment a man was tackled by brave Chiefs fans after the shooting at Union Station in Kansas City.”

Continuing, he added, “The fans could be seen heroically tackling the suspect as he ran away. Shortly after the man was tackled, police swarmed the area where they found a gun. A sniper has taken position on top of a building. It is currently unknown if a threat still exists or if this is simply precautionary. One person is reportedly dead and about 10 others injured.”
